Roma nova wins TuinZaken Retail Award

The winners of the TuinZaken Retail Awards 2018, by Dutch magazine TuinZaken, have been announced with beautiful products for the garden centre industry!

TuinZaken Retail Awards

Recognised as an important event in the garden centre industry, the TuinZaken Retail Awards 2018 were presented on 19 February. A nine-member jury got the difficult task of choosing winners in seven different categories.

The TuinZaken Product Award winners are:

  • Karel Verdonschot Award 2018: Rob Verlinden
  • Retailer of the year 2018: Ton Uljee, Intratuin Barneveld
  • Garden maintenance and tools: ECOstyle
  • Green inside: Magical Colors your Home
  • Green outside: Roma nova
  • Decoration and atmosphere: Edelman
  • Animal articles: Vitakraft Netherlands

We are particularly proud of Roma nova’s win as we got to design and print the labels and pot covers for these sustainable pot bulbs.

The total concept

The jury said: “A grower who has stuck their neck out is Roma nova with the total concept of environmentally-friendly premium flower bulbs in combination with a beautiful label line and a self-designed trendy pot line. The full pots with organic spring bulbs should not be missing in stores that want to distinguish themselves.”

Sustainability and craftsmanship

These fantastic comments from the jury are more than justified: the organically grown flower bulbs of flower bulb nursery Roma nova are distinguished by short stem lengths and a long flowering period. Sustainability and craftsmanship are of high importance to this grower. The assortment within this line consists of daffodils, Muscari, Crocus and Bridal Crown, which can all be found in sustainable retail packaging.

The assignment

Roma nova’s brief to Floramedia was to develop a concept for a fair line within their assortment. From the perspective of the market, there is a rising demand for honest and sustainable products and as such the design incorporated this ethos in a number of ways, for example, ensuring it was attractive to a variety of insects. The wish of Roma nova was, therefore, a design with storytelling around these specifications.

Sustainable packaging

Besides the fact that the flower bulbs have been grown organically, they are also placed in a durable jacket. The bulbs are sold in a Jiffy R2 pot, which can be directly placed into the ground. The surrounding pot cover and label are made from the durable material B500 of Floramedia, which is a biodegradable material that for the most part consists of cellulose; it is 100% renewable and can be recycled into existing waste streams.

Colour

The concept emphasises the experience of nature as a whole through utilising colours, smells, sounds and shapes. On the label a photo of the flower is in bloom, so the customer sees exactly which product and colour they are buying.
